Post workout shakes are KEY to building muscle to burn fat. Consumed 30 minutes post workout is the window of opportunity to make sure you refuel for proper recovery and optimal nutrition. Usually a two to one ratio of protein to carbs is the best nutrients combined with at least 5% of leucine (an ammino acid) proven to help build muscle.

This was really interesting. I knew that the mind was powerful, but who knew it was that powerful! What are your thoughts on a post-workout shake? I am usually short on time after a workout, and I often don't have time to go home and cook up a chicken breast. A workout shake helps keeps me from feeling like I am starving, while also giving me, I assume, nutrients. What are your thoughts?

I do like the way you have framed this particular situation and it really does provide me personally a lot of fodder for thought. However, from what I have witnessed, I just simply trust when the actual comments pack on that people today remain on point and not embark upon a tirade regarding some other news du jour. Still, thank you for this excellent piece and although I can not really concur with it in totality, I value your viewpoint.

a little polishing? i just googled and watched the video on all that trash in the lake near presidents island. it's crazy dirty and much like wolf river in harbor town when the river gets high. all the trash from the banks goes directly into the water. i kayak around that stuff and it leaves a nasty film on my boat. i see directly the trash coming into the river via the run-off opening. if we can get more people in Memphis from taking from the system and start putting money back into keeping our city cleaner then we might be a little more proud of our city instead of embarrassed.

uggggghhh. you hired me as your trainer so i have to be hard on you. as you call it "hard on ya Tonya" so don't get mad at my comments to your post.

losing weight and changing your lifestyle is hard Mark and that is how many clients feel especially the one's that travel and eat out a lot like you. that is why they and you have to jump on board and do a whole lifestyle change not just initially in the program. if you would do the detox as i suggested and cut out the wine and beer (extra calories) then you would be even further along with your results. your fitness assessment today was a real eye opener and hope it gets you to rethink your coffee and alcohol habit as well as at least consider a detox program. as we talked today you gotta cut back on the nuts also as you should only be having 25 grams of fat on a 1500 calories. 1 tablespoon of nuts is 7 fat grams so it adds up quick.

you get mad and want me to give you props for at least not gaining weight while you were gone but your 1st 10 lbs you lost are the same 10 pounds you have gained and lost for 11 years. at least your getting in your exercise while you were traveling and that's great for your heart and cholesterol.
i want to encourage you not beat you up emotionally to where you are not motivated. You asked for my help and i am here as much or as little as you need.

mark came back from Los Angeles with some size 34 jeans, although i thought they were a bit tight...the mere fact that he is even in them is a testament to how hard he has been working. I told him that they were tight but looked great in the butt. He said thanks but reminded me that he still has some pounds to lose and then they will fit even better.

okay, i am so glad that he shared the church wafer story. i was cracking up, i even offered to eat it for him... but the suit pocket was the winner.

so glad Mark that you are giving me props for your regular appointments with me weekly for your training sessions. Your various workout partners that you share your sessions with seem to get chuckles from our bantering during your sessions and tell you that i am just as mean to them and i am not just picking on you.

it has been hard with the kids being sick with winter colds and stuff, snow days, and work backed up from your travels so lots of excuses could have been pulled out of the master grab bag. KEEP GETTING IT DONE. Oh - by the way I love how I really only have to cook veggies and a protein and you don't go for the cereal in the cabinet as a late night snack anymore. Hopefully that is a pastime activity you will not return to anytime soon. It's was addiction that had to be stopped....so don't sneak a cheerio or you might fall off the wagon.

For those of you that are reading this comment to Mark's post if you ever expect to lose the weight then you need to get in that pantry and fridge and toss out food that you know good and well is not supporting you with your weight loss/healthy eating goal. THROW IT OUT. DON'T BUY IT AGAIN. IF YOU THINK YOU ARE STRONGER THAN YOUR TASTEBUDS AND YOU CAN RESIST YOUR TEMPTING TASTY TREATS THEN YOU BETTER LIFT UP YOUR SHIRT AND THINK AGAIN. IF YOU BUY IT YOU WILL EAT IT. Tonya

As far as regular...Im just like the ole 7:14- Im on time!!

Mark, congratulations on your halfway to goal mark. I have a question about the steak diet. Do you take anything herbal or otherwise that keeps you a regular guy? Seems like too much of a good thing is not always a good thing, I have often wondered the same thing about the Atkins diet as well. I guess prunes could be the fruit in your diet. Just asking......................................................jack of east texas (home of Bigfoot).

writing this while mark is away on the california trip, again while he is in the sunshine i am freezing in the cold. just posted on our facebook page (energymemphis is our facebook page name) pictures of me freezing in the cold waiting for the golden ticket for memphis city optional schools.

so proud of mark and always wished for him to get the weight off sooner. we have been married for 11 years and he has had those pesky 20 lbs for at least 9.5 of the 11 years.

you look great mark and thanks for saying my workouts work and they are just what you need, i have been trying to get you on "my program" for years now.

as you all can see in his post, you really have to get the mental aspect of the weight loss thing. the mind is a wonderous thing when you put it to work and stick with your goals.
